Topology of Sustainability - Natural Perceptual Stimuli
A natural perceptual stimulus is the concept of the perceptual information received by an individual related to the environment. These stimuli are natural sensations received by the human senses of sight, sound, taste, touch and smell in an environment without any man-made perceptual stimuli. Natural perceptual stimuli are the aggregate of all these stimuli.
As human societies have become fundamentally transformed by ecosystem modification and degradation many humans have lost their connection to the natural world due to the loss of natural perceptual stimuli. This has created a human view of the natural world that has become distant, conceptual and vague. This natural connection is not a singular connection but a spectral connection. Maintaining these stimuli is important to maintaining the natural connection to the world.
Vernacular cultures can educate us in reconnecting with these natural perceptual stimuli. Saving vernacular cultural types should be promoted at the same level as other endangered species.
