Recycled Road Base From A Demolished Building

Contractor removed hazardous materials from a building to be demolished. He then demolished the structure. Instead of sending the material to a landfill, he ran the material through a rock crusher. He mixed local beach sand with the crushed material to create aggregate base course for the road and parking areas. The road base met Federal Highway Administration criteria. The savings to the Contractor was over $400,000. Payback was immediate.
